Sports and Markets Available: Acceptable for US Standards
- NBA, NFL, MLB, and NHL get the prime
Draftkings was the first sportsbook to enter the US market back in August last year. To be fair, we did not expect miracles in terms of the range of betting options nor did we even think of comparing those to the international industry.
However, we have to praise DraftKings sportsbook for offering a strong array of betting options for all popular sports in the United States. We can easily compare their offer to those of global industry leaders in this niche when it comes to sports such as basketball, baseball, football, and ice-hockey.
The list of exotic markets is quite impressive. You can thus go and predict the method of the next field goal in basketball (2-pointer or 3-pointer), the result of the next strikeout, hit or walk in baseball. You can back money line, props and spreads in each period of an ice-hockey match and in each quarter of a basketball affair. The offer goes even beyond. This is not a unique feature, though, as nowadays most New Jersey-based sportsbook do have more or less the same range of markets on the menu, but it is still pretty impressive.n The list of betting options is far scarcer when it comes to other sports, though. Soccer, tennis, boxing and MMA, cricket, darts, golf, motor-sports, and rugby are all available, but provide options for basic markets mainly. Most sports available for pre-game betting are also on the offer when it comes to in-play betting. This was yet another surprise for us, especially given the range of markets was more than acceptable for the US standards even for sports such as tennis and soccer.
Odds & Limits
Our DraftKings Sportsbook Review would be incomplete without a closer look on the odds. So, we compared what DraftKings has to offer in comparison to other operators and here is what we found:
- Odds: Little Value Overall, Teasers the Only Positive Side
From what we could have seen, this is the segment where DraftKings do stand behind competitors. This works for single bets, though. We tested the odds for the NBA play-offs final between Golden State Warriors and Toronto Raptors at Oracle Arena. DraftKings offered -172 for the home win and 142 for the away victory, while we found odds like -168 for the home victory and 146 for the away win elsewhere. It is, more or less, the same situation with in-play betting.
Nevertheless, teaser bets are where DraftKings normally beat competitors on most occasions according to our experience. Regardless of the number of selections on a teaser, we usually got the better price here than with other NJ-based bookies.
- Limits: Not the Best of Features
We were positively surprised with the number of betting markets, but we encountered a negative curiosity when it comes to bookies’ limits. In an attempt to place a bet of $30, one-third of the stake was flagged for approval. It seems the upper limit is somewhere around $350 for potential winnings. Anything above it requires further checks and special approvals.
These limits can be different in regards to sports or markets, but we feel the bookmaker should try and set them at least somewhat higher in order for unpleasant situations to be avoided.
Available promotions: Welcome Bonus, Refer a Friend
- Welcome Bonus: 100% up to $200
Of course, we’ll take a closer look for our DraftKings Sportsbook Review to the available promotions. New customers are eligible to claim a 100% up to $200 welcome bonus. Whilst it looks quite generous, the reality is you are facing an uphill battle to fully release it and take advantage of perks entirely. Once you register a new account and make an initial deposit, DraftKings will match it with a 100% extra bonus money.
However, play-through requirements are pretty cruel as you need to roll over the deposit amount ten times in order to unlock the bonus cash. The good news is the money is released in increments of $1. Basically, whenever you make a total amount of $10 in bets, you will get an extra $1 (withdrawable) into your account. So, to take the maximum advantage of their welcome bonus, you need to deposit $200 and wager $2,000 in sports bets. The time frame for such an accomplishment is 45 days. Also, note this promotion is only available until the last game of the NBA play-offs final between Toronto Raptors and Golden State Warriors. Nevertheless, we expect a very similar welcome offer to follow.
- Other promotions
Draftkings also show care for their existing customers by coming up with some additional promos. Their versatility depends on events, but we can confirm that most popular competitions in main sports are usually covered with some sort of extra-value from the bookie. They thus offer $15 in free bets for major tennis tournaments (Grand Slams). This is exclusively promotion connected to the in-play betting. You get a $5 free bet (available to use for live-betting only) for each $5 you wagered (also in-play). Given you can use the promo three times during a Grand Slam, it’s the total of $15 extra bonus.
On top of this, referring to new customers is rewarded. Both you and your referred friend can get $50 in free bets (five $10 bets) if he uses your referral link and makes a deposit of at least $50.
DraftKings Sportsbook Review 2019: Additional Features
Mobile Application: Will Do the Purpose
We downloaded the mobile app for our DraftKings Sportsbook Review and here is what we saw. The mobile application is available for both iOS and Android, but it won’t support some old models. Some of our colleagues failed to test it out using older versions of phones. We, however, had no troubles and we saw it run smoothly most of the time. The experience is much better if you use the WiFi connection.
There is a casino integration present, meaning you are only one click away from playing casino games. From the aesthetics point of view, we have to say we’ve encountered better (not to say prettier) views and backgrounds than the white and neon text on a black surface.
The good news is there are no issues whatsoever with bet slips. It is pretty easy to place a bet via the mobile app as you get to choose whether to place single bets or parlays and set stakes without any complications.
Our Conclusion: Reliable Brand with Room for Improvements
As we saw throughout our DraftKings Sportsbook Review, the operator has both plenties to offer and just as much to improve moving forward. We are entirely satisfied with the range of sports, betting markets, odds boosts, live betting menu, refer a friend promotion, customer support, the possibility of integrating your Daily Fantasy Sports account to the recently-introduced sportsbook, etc. Their biggest advantage probably lies in the parlays pricing, as described above. However, if you fancy individual bets, this is not the most profitable place for you (at least at this moment). Also, the welcome bonus is cleared at 10x wagering requirements which are way below par compared to other sportsbooks in New Jersey.
